The Market, Cheese and Feelings

I was talking to my team yesterday and we were discussing the market and the general sentiment.

Now those of you who know me will know that I don’t subscribe to a “market downturn” of any kind.

The market just changed. (yes it’s as simple as that)

It’s only our knowledge of the past that determines how we look at the current situation. I mean if you were to wake up today after being asleep for 10 years.. would you say that things are bad?

No way.

There is so much opportunity out there right now… all you have to do is look… HOWEVER… the market has changed… so you can’t look in places where you used to look. There are new, more exciting places to find opportunity… and there’s so much opportunity (and so many places to look).

It’s a shame that our view of the past affects how we look at things today… but that’s the reality. People’s feelings affect everything.

We live in a world we we all allow our feelings to be controlled (much too often) by others. (Isn’t that crazy?).

However… we starting to see those feelings change…

Is it that people have just got fed up with feeling bad?

Is is that people have got used to feeling bad… and it’s no longer news worthy?

No idea.

But they are changing.

When our feelings change so does the world… the signs of change are everywhere. It’s happening one person at a time… one person saying “I’ll invest” or “things are not so bad”.

The next few years are going to be an amazing time… what will our new world look like?  what will the opportunities be? Where will you fit in?

As this great new time unfolds before our eyes, and you find your new place in this new world.. remember one thing… don’t get too comfortable, and like Hem in the story of “who moved my cheese” – keeping your running shoes tied around your neck.

You never know when it’s time to run and find new cheese.

Interesting Question….

We were talking the other day about opportunities.. and the question came up…

If you were to awake today from a coma that you had been in for 20 years what would you think of the place you live in today?

Would you…

a) think that there is a recession and ask to be put back in a coma?

b) think that there is a boom, get out of your bed and go and do something?

c) think that things are the way they are… look for opportunities and exploit them?

d) think of an option d :)

Having a memory of what’s happened in the past skews our judgement of what’s out there today…

So what do you think is the right answer, and why?

Day 3 – An Inside Job!

And I quote…

“Your job is an inside one. To change the world, all you have to do is change the way you feel inside. How easy is that?”

So how to you feel better? Just *think* better… a change in thinking, a new look, and the exercise I did yesterday helped me do that too.

There are many people feeling pretty crap right now with the word in recession.

Here’s a new way to look at it…

The world is NOT in recession, the world IS as it IS. People only think that it’s a recession because they are comparing it to the past!

If there was no past – people would not compare it, and everyone would start to accept things the way they are, get on with their lives and start to look at opportunities! (there are just so many!)

I’ll talk again about the book “Who Moved My Cheese” – as it’s so perfect! (read more about why here)

One of the best tricks I know of to think differently is to smile… your body is linked to your feelings (and your feelings linked to your body)… You can’t feel down and smile at the same time… try it!

:D

So moral of the story…

Think differently – Change your feelings – change your Reality. (and smile)
